ADVANTAGES

Easy to assemble and to substitute

Being finished outside with grinder, the rubber bearings with external shell in metal are producted in the narrowest tolerances requested and can therefore very easily be disassembled and reassembled with utmost precision.

Noise abatement and vibration dampening

The rubber bearings are qualified for their capacity of reducing or eliminating vibrations and noises, which is an important factor for the application on any type of boat and industrial machine, where masses which are not perfectly balanced or which carry very delicate instruments are rotating. The possibility of the shaft to rotate around its revolution centre in case this does not coincide perfectly with its geometric centre, together with the elasticity which is characteristic of the rubber, make it possible that each and every vibration is discharged inside the bearing and that, in most cases it does not even reach the metal shell.

The Ploughing system

Patented by Caravel, for the construction of large dimensions bearings (minimum diameter of axis 80 mm. maximum diameter of axis 500 mm.) this system allows to set up the bearing avoiding the construction of the inner core for the forming. Further to the economical one, this System offers other advantages:

  • Higher precision on the dimension of the inner diameter, which is made possible by the use of an inner round core, without protrusions and which can be grinded and brought into centesimal tolerances.
  • Achievement of ray channels which increase the capacity and the duration of the bearing, especially when the axis works horizontally for a question of weight.
  • Disablements: once the life of the bearing finishes, after the grinding of the axis it is possible to grind in equal measure the core for the stamping and obtain a new bearing with the inner diameter adapted to the new measure of the axis.
  • Last but not least important advantage of the ploughing system, is the remarkable reduction of the delivery terms that go down from approximately 20 days to only 4-5 working days.

Shaft bearings with involute channels

Caravel rubberized bearings with involute channels (not to be confused with helical channels) have long been proved and tested, under particularly severe operating conditions, on vertical test benches applying considerable dynamic balancing loads and in liquids charged with various types of sand taken from the most critical environments, such as Puglia, Sicily, and others. The simple rotation of the axle promotes a powerful pumping action in the involute, which leads to a considerably increased fluid velocity in the channels and remarkable cooling, lubricating, and cleaning effects in the channels.

The axle no longer rotates in a polygonal support, but is supported and guided over the entire length of its entire circumference, thereby reducing vibrations to a negligible level; this detail is of prime importance for bearings mounted on the propeller shaft of pleasure boats or large luxury yachts. Thanks to their great reliability, the use of Caravel bearings is particularly suitable for applications on engines meant to operate in very sandy areas, or where few opportunities for quick repair and maintenance are avaiable. The pitch, number and connecting bending radius of involute channels, which vary depending on the axle diameter and the direction of rotation (right or left) are based on a computerized system.
